I am Darius Fagan and I am the General manager of Predator Free Rakiura.  I joined this team after a long career at the Department of Corrections where, one of my initiatives was to lead our ‘Good to Grow’ partnership with Department of Conservation.  This initiative helped connect people who had been involved in crime to constructive activity with a conservation outcome.   Through this work I developed a personal passion for supporting Predator Free New Zealand.  I got involved in predator control personally and was a voluntary Predator Free coordinator in Upper Hutt for five years.  Through this work I have learned a great deal about how to protect native wildlife through trapping and other methods, how to record and monitor data, and how to engage other people in this work.  Through these two areas of my work and life I have developed a good understanding of the stakeholders and organisations that are involved in progressing the Predator Free 2050 goal and the plans that have been developed to achieve this. It is a dream job to contribute to progressing this for Rakiura, it’s inhabitants and visitors.  I have seen first hand what can be achieved and how significant it is for people to see taonga species return to the environments we live in and love to explore.
